Match report LAST GAME OF ECCL 2 SEASON - Match Report vs Pinatar Pirates XI away at La Manga Golf Resort.

So the last game of the season today after what has been an eventful year of cricket. Team cancelling fixtures, teams pulling out of the league. But our season finished today with another new player making his debut and with 2 players playing their last games for the club.

With overcast conditions and Torre having 11 players at the ground K.Wood kept a good record of coin tossing this year and WON the toss and decided to bowl first.

Opening the bowling and after a good start last week vs Alfas II. Torre choose to keep the openers of S.Khan and R.Maini.

Just like last week. Couple of expensive overs but it was the 5th over from S.Khan when the breakthrough was taken when S.Khan forced Abbas to chip the ball to mid-on where new player J.Kinsella made his first contribution to the team with a fine catch. The Next over saw many more celebrations when R.Maini made Gopi sky the ball high into the air to mid-off where the ball was falling for what felt like an eternity right into the hands of J.Kinsella yet again !!! 21/2 of 6 overs and Torre were of to a flyer. Few overs past with no.3 and no.4 for pinatar making a comeback so a change of bowler bringing on last weeks leading wicket taker T.Culshaw onto the attack amd struck in his first over clean bowling Surjant. Few more overs passed with the Pinatar batsmen showing no signs of slowing down the big shots amd the 13th over saw the 4th wicket fall when T.Culshaw forced Loveprit to ship the ball back to him for a simple caught and bowled. 60/4 of 13 overs. Akash and jagdeep steadied the boat and saw to drinks then pushed on after drinks attacking certain bowlers but the partnership of 10 overs and 58 runs was broken on P.Harveys last over when 5 dots balls forced pressure onto akash and got him to stretch for a wide ball and nicked it for K.Wood to take a one-handed catch falling to his right. 118/5 and the game was back on but with Jagdeep smashing the ball around the park the score escalated quickly. A quick single for Jagdeep saw hia fifty come up. The next over saw S.Khan back onto the attack and got Jagdeep to play the ball perfectly to gully where P.Harvey was standing but somehow hit his thumb, hit his chest then touch the floor, possibly a costly drop. A spark of magic when T.Culshaw came back on for his second spell and got sukhi to defend ball that took an awkward bounce and hit the stumps BOWLED !!
Chaos the following few balls as T.Culshaw bowled a chaotic no ball that flew over the batsmen head, keepers head and run to the boundary for 45 to pursue, collect and thro where the batsmen also took a single. The next ball saw Jugdeeps innings come to an end when he tried to hit T.Culshaw but could only find R.Maini at deep square leg who made sure that his inninga wouldnt get another life. 4 wickets for T.Culshaw but had just suffered an injury in his shoulder but still had 1 ball left.... and wanted his 5fer... Preet Singh walked to the crease and SKIED the ball into the air towards mid-wicket where calls from 2 fielders wanted the ball..... M.Cumberwells & J.Kinsella collided and crashed into eachother BUT not before the ball had dropped and locked into M.Cumberwells hands despite J.Kinsella crashing into him. 142/8 was the new score when they were 139/5 the over before. Despite the injury T.Culshaw wanted to go for his Hat-Trick but was unable to get it. S.Khans last over and before drinks saw the Wicket of rico LBW and the score 152/9. A quick drinks break for final plans as G.Wambeck was in with No.8 Gulshan. C.Wood came into the death bowling with R.Maini but it was Gulshan who was in control as the overs went for 12, 12, Maiden, 7, 11 but it was R.Maini who got Gulshan eventually as a short ball was cut to deep point where C.Wood took the catch to end the innings. Pinatar went from 152/9...to 198/10 in 5.3 overs. A final wicket partnership worth 48 with Gulshan going from 6runs at drinks break to a rapid 45.

Quiet an annoying score to chase when it was 48 runs more than expected. But a long innings break to recompose saw P.Michael open the batting with R.Maini who was looking to continue his form from last week. Jagdeep opened the bowling after a good performance with the bat and caused early problems with some stromg outswing but the other end saw R.Maini enjoy the bowling of Rico hitting him for 11 of the over. Runs slowed down and the 4th over saw the revenge of rico who got some control and got P.Michael LBW. P.Harvey back at his normal position at 3 and got of the mark straight away with a nice cut shot. The score ticked along nicely but Jagdeeps pressure finally got P.Harvey when his only bad ball was short ready for P.Harvey to pull but could only find an edge that carried nicely to the keeper. After a good performance on the field, J.Kinsella was in at 4 with 40 on the board at the 8 over mark. Both R.Maini and J.Kinsella dug in and ran ALOT of singles and punished the bad balls. By the 15 over mark at drinks the boys were 71/2 with R.Maini on a good 47*. It was the 17th over when R.Maini ran 2 runs to third-man that brought up his 50 and continued to smash the ball. It wasnt to long before his innings finished when an edge fell to gully. 87/3 of 19 overs. K.Wood was in at 5 to assist J.Kinsella and the 2 ran well between the wickets hitting the odd boundary and bringing ip the teams 100. But 6 overs into the partnership, K.Wood was out for 11 when he edged the ball back to the bowler Akash. T.Culshaw was in at 6 and was only there for 4 balls before he saw J.Kinsella's innings end when he tracked akash but missed the striaght ball and the ball hit the stumps.
S.Khan in at 7 and the 2 new batsmen put their heads down and ran what they could and hit what they could until it was T.Culshaw who was next out when the scoreboard preasure saw a big shot see him caught at long on. C.Wood went in at 8 with S.Khan and saw it through to drinks with tge score 145/6 with 10 overs remaining and 4 wickets in hand. The 2 Torre boys ran some good singles with S.Khan hitting the odd boundary but it was the 32nd over when C.Wood was bowled bringing in M.Cumberwells who added some more runs but when he was also bowled a couple overs later it was left for S.Khan to try score 30 in 5 overs. A big shot down the ground was caught at cow-corner which left G.Shelton and J.Singh left. A few more singles from the boys but the innings was finished in the 37th overs when J.Singh flicked the ball to midwicket and was caught. The final score being 171 all out and losing the last game of the season by 27 runs.

So the league season is over. Weve tasted victory, weve also suffered defeat, weve had to cancel a game, we have had games cancelled on us. We still have friendlies comin up in september and we have our Annual superstars competition in october.

Sadly we have had to say goodbye to 2 players playing their last game today:

G.Shelton - who has been the chairman here in the squad since the forming of Torrevieja C.C has announced his retirement from chairman and playing duties.

P.Michael - Although he hasnt been here for very long he has made a name for himself here in the Torrevieja family with laughs and performances. He has made his mark with bat and fielding and will be taking his skill to england later on Tonight, we wish P.Michael the best of luck in england and that he remembers us as much as we will remember him.

We will be taking it easy for the next few weeks with some training sessions but until then.....

HASTA LUEGO !!!!!
