League Champions 2014

01 Oct 2014

The Cricket Club Torrevieja league champion.

Torrevieja Cricket Club was formed three years ago after originally playing as San Fulgencio CC. After an offer from the Department of Sports and the City of Torrevieja to reform as Torrevieja CC and the opportunity to play their home matches at a ground situated in Torreviejas new Sport City complex the decision was made to reform.

During the first two seasons the club finished towards the lower end of the 2nd Division League which covers an area including Madrid, Murcia, Valencia and Almeria. In the first game of their third season the club got off to a fantastic start with a win at Sporting Alfas Cricket Club, what a dream to what would become a very fruitful season.

The bright start commenced with the support of some new club sponsors in the form of www.expatinsuranceinspain.com, a great catch for the Cricket Club and Expat Insurances proprietor Ken Taylor. The deal was a much needed boost for the club. Club player Dave Reid offered the club a website sponsored by his company www.reidpropertyservices.com to raise the club profile and promote the activities of the club and its players.

The Club is still looking for first Spanish player like other clubs in the region who already have Spanish players. Half of the club is made up of youth team players who have learned this particular sport within the club and have become very good players and athletes. Particularly, Adam Halger has been invited to the next event of the Spanish Academy of Cricket.

The season ended with a win over Intellectuals CC and being crowned as Division 2 league champions. Torrevieja CC was presented the championship trophy from the great English batsman Graham Fowler.

All in all a great season, the friendly spirit and openness at Torrevieja Cricket Club welcomes all as players, delegates, supporters and sponsor and invites all. If you are interested in participating please contact them through club president Graham Shelton at torrevieja-cricket@live.com
