LMTCC Torrevieja C.C v Milton Bryan C.C on Sun 16 Sep 2018 at 11.00
LMTCC Won batting second win by 60 runs ?
So the weather took the turn for the best and the sun came out to shine. Unfortunately the cricket ground would have been flooded and unplayable.
so the boys rocked back to the Clubs famous "MARKET CRICKET" !!!!!
the wickets were out and the boundary was placed. A proper game of cricket with normal running, boundaries and fresh air. The teams stayed the same with The milton Bryan boys lending a hand to help with the fielding numbers. Milton Bryan selected their captain and for possibly the last time this year, K.Wood Lost the toss and was made to field first. Opening the bowling with S.Khan and C.Wood, Seemed bowling conditions were perfect when a caught behind and 2 bowled had the tourist 8/3 of the first 3 overs. a fine knock from S.Gregg and some big hitting from Tom saw the teams score escalate quickly and the score went to 86/3. Trying to hit a 3rd 6 in a row saw the stumps knocked over by P.Harvey getting tom out. A couple overs later saw S.Gregg really needing a pint so running a 2 to reach his 30 and overtaking tom as top scorer seemed enough to earn himself a pint and retired out to go claim it. wickets fell occasionally after that with K.Wood taking 4 catches behind the stumps and a run out. Extras going for boundaries helped the team reach a respectable score of 143 of their 20 overs.
In reply, Torre sent out S.Khan and P.Harvey and flew to 27/0 of 3 overs but the 4th over saw S.Khan get a leading edge to mid-wicket. K.Wood went in at 3 and the new partnership flew to 96 with P.Harvey retiring after hitting a no-ball 6 to reach 53. P.Singh was in at 4 and was dropped at deep extra cover 3 times in 1 ball !!! costly droped as K.Wood trying to reach his 50 in style walked on a stumping appeal on 48. 20 was needed to win with C.Wood coming to the crease to bat but was out for a golden Duck chipping the ball kindly to cover. then the next ball saw another golden duck when new player J.Singh chipped the ball nicely for mid-wicket to take a catch. Seems the curse of the mid order collaspe follows Torrevieja C.C in every format of the game. J.Khan went in with P.Singh and some nervy singles were taken but a cut shot from P.Singh that raced away for 4 was enough to take the team over the line in the 15th over. with 5 overs left, the boys wanted to carry on their cricket in the sun experiance and honoured to finish the alloted overs. Most the Torrevieja players came back onto the field to pressure the batsmen to getting out and when the wicket of J.Khan was taken, THE UMPIRE stepped up for a bat. First 2 balls were a defensive shot hit on the leg and a massive appeal for LBW was given not out by P.Singh who stepped up to umpire. second ball was chipped over short Leg and dropped. then the 3rd ball was slapped past short mid-wicket and no fielders were near the ball as it plodded away down the hill for a 4. The umpire then stod up and retired not out on a 4 to have the best Average of the weekend. P.Singh came back into bat and the remaining 4 overs were wicketless and instead took the team too 201.
after that we packed everything up and went for a few drinks in the bar next door and enjoied the company of eachother with dancing, singing, jokes and sunshine.
a great tour all round by all. some good performances with bat and ball with some specatular catches. Many Thanks to S.Gregg who organised this tour and many thanks to the scorer and umpire who participated over the weekend.
Lots of photos and videos were taken over the weekend and you can see them all on our Facebook Page at "Torrevieja Cricket Club".
A few empty weeks follow now but we shall return soon for our annual "SUPERSTARS COMPETITION" which will be on the 13th October at the Torrevieja Cricket Ground (Weather Permitting)
Until then ............................Hasta Luego Amigos !!!!
